I meant to post this last week, but last Wednesday Steven Curtis Chapman's 5-yr-old daughter was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by her brother, you can read the story here. His song, Cinderella, has been on the top charts for the last couple weeks, You can play the YouTube video and follow along with the lyrics below. The song is actually about his daughter, written before she was killed. I cried my eyes out. Maybe it was God's way of preparing Him for her death. We will never fully be able to understand why God does the things He does, but may we continue to trust in Him and His plan.
She spins and she sways to whatever song plays,
Without a care in the world.
And I'm sittin' here wearin' the weight of the world on my shoulders.
It's been a long day and there's still work to do,
She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you!
There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited and I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms'
Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be goneShe says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I'd approve of a dress
She says "Dad, the prom is just one week away,
And I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms'
Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with CinderellaI don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She will be gone.
Well, she came home today
With a ring on her hand
Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned
She says "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
But I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms'
Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
(even one song)
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

My heart breaks for them. I have tired to imagine what it would be like to lose and child and my mind won't allow me to go there. I simply cannot imagine that kind of pain. It is incredible that he wrote this song about her having no idea that much too soon the clock would stike midnight and she'd be gone. I'm sure he's glad that he took the time to "dance with cinderella."
