For my first year of teaching, I was a 6th grade Language Arts teacher. Yankee-teacher in the South: shocked to learn that even my advanced block of students were not aware that they shouldn't use double negatives.

I LITERALLY turned and banged my head against the whiteboard as I was trying to teach my students about it.
